Bet Tzedek Legal Services

An internationally recognized force in poverty law, Bet Tzedek – which means “House of Justice” in Hebrew, was founded in 1974 by a group of rabbis and community leaders who believed it is the duty of all men and women to advocate the just cause of the poor. Each year, the agency serves 15,000 people in Los Angeles County regardless of race, ethnicity, or religious background. For 39 years, Bet Tzedek has pursued practical and effective strategies to address the major problems confronting the residents of Los Angeles County disenfranchised by poverty. Bet Tzedek’s portfolio of projects combines direct legal representation, education, and legislative advocacy. Our attorneys, paralegals, and pro bono volunteers provide free legal assistance to people who are denied wages, overtime pay, public benefits, safe housing, or other rights.
