Become a Coach for the Special Olympics
Special Olympics Southern California provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Program Description: Young Athletes is a unique program for children with and without intellectual disabilities. It is an early introduction to sports and to the world of Special Olympics. Children ages 2 to 7 enjoy games and activities that develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist our Head Coach and Program Coordinator with the execution of lessons and activities that are important to mental and physical growth. As a volunteer Young Athlete Coach, you will help create and maintain a positive and fun environment for participants. Time Commitment: 1 Hour per week for 8 consectutive weeks. Requirements: All volunteers must undergo a background check. Must submit an online volunteer application that will include a online general orientation, protective behaviors, and concussion training.
